quarantine and settling-in programmes

new quarantine rules from 15th December 2020

The UK Government has just announced changes to the quarantine requirements for people arriving in England from abroad.

Arrivals will be able to reduce their quarantine to a maximum of 7 days by taking a private test on day 5 of the quarantine period, as results will normally be issued in 24 to 48 hours. If the test result is negative, they no longer need to isolate and can return to their main school.

The rules come into force from 15th December, and tests from private firms will cost between £65 and £120.

We are waiting for more details of how the test will work and once we know we will update this page, and all our overseas parents and agents.

We have now adapted our QSI Programme (Quarantine and Settling In) to be a minimum of 7 days to allow time for tests to be returned.

The staff at both Cambridge Melchior College and Kings Bournemouth are committed to ensuring that the quarantine that we offer is safe and hygienic. We will put the following measures in place to ensure this:

  • Ensuring that staff and students wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds regularly and especially before meal times and at regular intervals throughout the day. Hand sanitiser and tissues will be available throughout the college.
  • Large, spacious classrooms are available for students and 2m markers will be in place to ensure appropriate spacing measures are in place (Cambridge only).
  • Staff will conduct daily temperature checks of all students.
  • Socially distanced activities will be organised and Cambridge students will have access to the large gardens and outside spaces at the college. In Bournemouth supervised walks will be arranged so students can get fresh air and exercise.
  • Students will be encouraged to wear masks when not in their rooms.
  • Both Colleges will arrange on-site health and medical assistance if required.
  • Both Colleges will be operating thorough cleaning protocols in regards to kitchens, dining areas, classroom and dormitory surfaces, door handles, and toilets.
  • Students will be accommodated in single ensuite rooms unless arriving with siblings from the same household and on the same flight at both locations.
